In the E9 class, we were required to make a personal logo. I was very intrigued by this and excited to begin. I began by researching my other projects such as the color wheel and seeing which colors I think would work best. I also researched shapes and came to a conclusion that ultimately I would create a shield logo. After a lot of other research I began to work on the thumbnail sketches. I made 12 different logos including different shapes and sizes, ultimately narrowing it down to just a single sketch. I then began working in Adobe Illustrator, and began the creation of my shield.
I started with two curved lines that met and continued all the way around in a sort of semi circle. I then connected the two top points with more curved lines. I added a large star and four smaller stars at the top of the logo as well as my initials. The stars in a way symbolize me and my family, with me being the middle child as well as being introduced as myself, that pushed me towards making the stars bigger. I added stripes at the bottom and a horizontal label across the middle that had my initials within. At this point I looked at my logo and was not very impressed. I decided to take a different approach and I used path finder to highlight every single shape on my page and unite them. This completely changed the appearance of the logo. It changed my logo to a more "fill in the blanks" type, with spacing in between each curved line. I tried many different color schemes until I then changed the colors to cool colors, and the blue symbolizes the chill nature around me and how I'm pretty laid back. Yet, the green color symbolizes that I still care about what I do and my work. At that point my logo was complete and this is the final draft of it.
From an overall meaning point of view, depending on how you look at it, It is calm with the shades of blue looking sort of like a tulip which translates to a calm setting for me. While in a more masculine way, if you look at the white within the tulip, you can sort of see a trident, this was Poseidon's "weapon" and it is very sharp and serious. The colors are also cool to represent the water of Poseidon's triton, as well as the smooth and soft feel of a tulip.
Looking back on the logo, I do like it and think it is so simple, but if you truly look within the logo and try to get a meaning out of it, you can find a lot more than a simple shield. If I could change it in any way it would probably be the font of the logo because in some ways it does not fit in my opinion. I would keep the shape the same though because I think it symbolizes a lot.
